| ALMOST NOTHING: A STUDY IN MINIMALISM. Yet another --ism:
Minimalism. We frequently hear it used outside the art world, where
it is more familiar to us. Often used when discussing a particular
style; a chic, sparse interior with simple furniture of generally solid
colors. This would necessarily include wall hangings that are also of
almost nothing.
In paintings, I would describe it as the ability to show what
something feels like, not necessarily what it looks like. Almost
meditative art, it doesn't try to overwhelm the viewer -- it simply
exists. Minimalism is art stripped to its essentials and reduced to
fundamentals. |
